A century has passed. And the exterior and interior of the house, which serves as our shelter to protect us, keep changing and changing as the generations keep evolving.
As we looked to the houses on the past, we can see a big difference to the structures and materials that were used on it compare to the modern houses nowadays.
The ancient houses were made in woods.
A hundred years ago, the entire of the houses were made of woods, even the windows and doors. In the Philippines, we called it “bahay kubo” or the nipa hut in English, just like the upper part of the house on the picture above. As time goes by, the nipa hut was added with cement; just like the example picture above. People who easily had a shelter with cement were considered as people in the middle or higher class because they afford to build or bought a house with a cement.
But as it stepped to year 80’s to 90’s, the structures were the same but just like in the picture that you can see below, the windows and door were made in glass and metal as the people continue to experiment and construct new materials.
The other style that was developed through the years is the houses that fully constructed by the use of bricks with the windows and doors that were made of woods. The contrary to the houses that were made in the mid of 80’s and 90’s.
As we look to the modern houses. Everything is different.
Modern houses were made of stones or any hard materials. The modern houses are more sophisticated and elegant looking from the exterior and interior design than the old houses as it uses a different shades of colors that are pleasing to the eyes, more glassy, and unique design and style.
People became more creative than ever and they showcase it to their works, just like the architects, engineers, and designers they are the reason behind the majestic houses that we adore.
As we looked to the advantages of the modernization in terms of houses, we can say that modernization has a major positive effect on our society. In this time, tragedies such as flood, earthquake, and fire are inevitable; if we still build houses like the traditional ones that are made of light materials, we are prone to accidents.
By making the houses build in hard and solid materials, it won’t break and shatter so easily in times of catastrophe.
But the disadvantage of this is that people nowadays are wanting and setting up a house that are too big for them. They plan to set up a house that is big and spontaneous without thinking the purpose and the needs of a true shelter, which is to protect people and became the shield from calamities.
Nowadays, they based the status of the people on how big and classy their house is.
They dream to have a luxurious house that cost a lot of millions.
